Recently purchased my first Japanese knife, and was told that it needs to be honed on a Japanese honing steel. The German steel that I have is not hard enough for the harder Japanese steels.
Very pleased with this purchase. Great for Japanese and can also use for my German knives. Love the 10" length. Much easier to use than the 8" German steel that came with my block set
