Rated 5 out of 5 by from Perfect family dish size! This Staub oval baking dish cast iron is perfect gratin dish, it's a good size for larger baking needs. This oval dish can do more than you could think off, from roasting meat, frying, browning minced garlic, melting butter, individual served spinach cheese dip, caramelizing sugar, baking and etc. Black matte enamel inside and cooking surface creates a culinary advantage for better browning, braising and roasting. Staub comes in a variety of colors depending on personal taste and touch. Cast iron possesses exceptional heat-retaining qualities, so the pot heats distributes evenly throughout. It requires no seasoning and works on all stovetops.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good size for 3-4 people I am a big fan of these gratin dishes. I find them to be the best way to roast vegetables. The cast iron heats up, and cooks and browns on the bottom while the tops brown from oven heat. Also a favorite for Yorkshire pudding, Dutch baby and a fruit crisp. Terrific heating in Staub's gratins. The quality of the cast iron is unsurpassed and the beauty of the exterior enamel makes it so easy to serve in them. More sizes available - larger and individual sizes.

I like how they look on the table, and how easily they go from the oven to the table. These are good for hot, cold, and room temperate dishes and are very easy to clean!

Ideal for potato or spinach gratin, or oat topped fruit crisps. Heat retention of cast iron makes for perfect oven to table serving piece.

Great for desserts too! It browns so well and cleans up easily. The gray exterior is neutral no matter what the season.

does the 12.5" dimension include the handles? If so what is the actual pan length? Thanks

The dimensions for this product are 12.4" long, no handles or 12.8" long total length, with handles X 9" wide X 3" tall.
