Description

This 5.5-inch prep knife is a compact all-rounder knife for precision prep work in-hand and on the cutting board. It’s perfect for chopping herbs, slicing meat, and dicing vegetables.

ZWILLING Pro boasts a unique curved bolster that acts as an extension of the hand, supporting the professional pinch grip, with thumb and index finger on the blade, for safe cutting and less fatigue. The blade was designed with a broad curve in the front to facilitate the rocking motion of Western cutting, while the straight back is ideal for the chopping motion Japanese knives were designed for. The full length of the blade can be used when cutting and can be sharpened from bolster to tip.

  • Curved bolster acts as an extension of the hand, encouraging cutting with improved precision, safety, and comfort
  • SIGMAFORGE knife is forged from a single piece of special formula high-carbon stainless steel
  • Ice-hardened FRIODUR blade starts sharper, stays sharper longer
  • Precision-honed blade and laser-controlled edge ensures ideal cutting angle for sharpness and durability
  • Full tang and handle are triple riveted for superb stability and comfort
  • Dishwasher safe, hand wash recommended

ZWILLING Pro 5.5-inch Ultimate Prep Knife is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 348.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from 5.5 Prep Fine Edge Great knife. I was replacing my Henckels International version that I’ve used for years. This has a better rocking ability, which was part of my goal. But I also was looking for a more substantial handle, which this did not deliver. And I didn’t really have large hands. It could be just a little getting used to, but I had hoped still for a little larger handle. The blade is perfect, and the bolster works well. I have some Pro S versions also and the bolster change is nice, but the Pro versions do not work with my knife block. This I knew in advance since I have other Pro versions as well. I recommend if you have large hands it may feel a bit light, so a lager handled knife may be a better choice.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from LOVE THIS KNIFE!!! This has been my go to knife since I bought it...lightweight, sharp well balanced and versatile. I am sort of a one knife person and can really use this for just about everything. I got the sale price which was amazing and of course the quality is exceptional.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Brilliant multi use knife I love how light this knife is but also how I am firmly able to handle this knife. This is the absolute perfect knife for taking off the bones of a cooked Costco chicken. It’s ease of use made deboning a cooked chicken incredibly easy. And since it’s also a prep knife I didn’t have to buy the boning knife for this. I don’t cook enough fish or raw chicken to buy the boning or fillet knives. This, although not meant to replace the aforementioned knives, does an excellent job of taking the bones off a small chicken/game hen that has been already cooked. I haven’t used it on a raw chicken so I can’t recommend using it for that. I love the size that allows me to move around tight places that a larger chef’s knife or slicing knife could be more cumbersome, in my humble opinion.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from The Little Knife that Could This knife has the curved bolster (middle of the knife) and its so comfortable to hold in the proper pinch grip. This knife is perfect for someone learning how to use a knife and can do anything in the kitchen. I usually grab it for quick one time cuts but my daughter uses it for everything.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Third Pro This is my third pro series knife. My wife loves to cook and I wanted her to have the best. They are beautiful and well balanced. Only problem, they are so sharp, my wife is a little scared of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Versatile Great knife. If I could have only two knives. This would be one of them.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great substitute for a chef knife I gifted this knife to my 80 year old sister, who is afraid of an 8 ' chef knife, thinking it's too big to use. For her needs, this is the perfect size knife. She can use it as a chef knife since the curved bolster allows her to hold it in a way that protects her fingertips. It's very comfortable in her hand. She loves its sharpness and wishes she bought this knife years ago. It's the only knife she uses anymore.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sharper than a night out with OJ I have the santoku pro chef and meat slicer so it was a no brainer to get this knife. The value is great, I figure it has cost me less than $.02 a day for the length of time I have had those knives. The main reason I got it is that my wife prefers a smaller knife in her hand, among other things, so I got it as a gift for her, but really was for me as well. It’s sharp out of the box and maintains an edge.

What is the total weight of this knife and how flexible is the blade?

Asked by: DELL
This knife weighs 0.7 lbs. It is forged, so it's not designed to be particularly flexible. If you need a more flexible blade, you may be interested in the ZWILLING Pro 7" Flexible Slicing/Carving Knife (https://www.zwilling.com/us/zwilling-pro-7-inch-flexible-slicing-carving-knife/38410-183.html) or one of our lighter-weight stamped styles.

The blade is 1.3" across at its widest point, where the bolster meets the handle, and .1" thick.

Hello there I bought this knife from Macy's and I am happy with the design and how well made it is, have it for about two months not using it it a lot that it's not as sharp when it first got here, can i use sharpener sold at Macy's? twin type? need know

Asked by: Roberto
Our first suggestion is to use a sharpening steel. This does not actually sharpen the blade, but realigns it. It is safe to use frequently, almost every time you use the knife, and makes a significant difference. If the blade is very dull, you can use a variety of pull-through sharpeners. Any of our ZWILLING/TWIN sharpeners will work well. Please note that this knife is factory sharpened to 15 degrees on each side, you want to use a sharpener with this angle.

I don't buy a lot of knives, so a basic question: Does a 5.5" prep knife have a 5.5" blade, or is it the overall length?

Asked by: Bob33
The 5.5" refers to the blade length (this is true of most kitchen knives).

What is the differences between blade sizes of this vs the 5.5" rocking santoku that is now on sale? I am wanting a smaller blade in height.
