ZWILLING TWIN 1731 9-inch Sharpening Steel is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 14.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from An excellent accessory! This 1731 honing steel is perfect for all your 1731 knives collections if this was not part of your purchase. This is an excellent honing steel for both your German steel and Japanese steel knives. A good honing steel is a must-have kitchen tools for every serious cook, it is an essential tool, and a great investment. A honing steel does not sharpen the knife, it is a maintenance to rather straightens the blade in order to restore the edge and improve sharpness.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Quality Tungsten Carbide Steel The tungsten steel can maintain the edge of almost any knife, whether it's German or Japanese; much harder than your typical honing steel. Honing is the maintenance performed usually once a week, or whenever your knife isn't cutting the way you want it to. It's a simple process that anyone can learn; but it doesn't hurt to watch the video on this website to perfect your technique. The solid ebony handle is incredibly beautiful and has a great weight.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Solid honing steel This is a great tool for helping maintain the edge and sharpness on your German or Japanese knives. Since this sharpening steel is for Twin 1731 knives, the Tungsten/Wolfram steel, which is a harder steel than the knives so it can reset the edge of your blade, will really get a nice edge back on your knives keeping them sharper longer. The handle matches the Ebony wood handles on the knives, a nice complimentary look in the kitchen with the knives.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Does the job but could be better Multiple of my friends and family members are using Zwilling and all of them are very happy with it. I purchased the 7 piece pro set and it arrived within a few days. I am very happy with the knives but not entirely impressed by the sharpening steel. Will give it another try, but I may need to look for a better option for sharpening.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Be good to your knives Part of the amazing Twin 1731 series. This steel is perfect for getting that razor sharp edge back on your knives each time. The honing steel is designed to maintain your blades by correcting the microserrations along the edge. The ebony handle is comfortable and feels great in the hand. Excellent quality!

Thank you for your reply, one more question do you know if this steel has grooves small or large like other steels or its completely smooth with a hard closed surface that doesn't nick or dent in with years of use?

Asked by: nate the great
The Tungsten Carbide is completely smooth, it does not have grooves like a traditional honing steel. It is unlikely to nick or dent with normal use.

Hello there sir I was wondering if you could tell me if the tungsten carbide is a finish on regular metal to make it look like its pure tungsten inside and out or if its authentic one solid piece of carbide similar to a ceramic rod that is pure ceramic

Asked by: nate the great
The rod is made of a single piece of Tungsten Carbide, it is not a finish. Tungsten Carbide is a very hard material, this steel was designed to hone knives with an HRC hardness greater than 60.
