CUTTING BOARDS
Food that can be broken down into portion-appropriate parts, it must be cut with a knife. Therefore, a cutting board is ideal as a base for breaking down food into appropriate parts. On one hand, it protects the kitchen worktop from damage and, on the other hand, it enables effortless cutting.
Cutting board material: wood or plastic
Cutting boards in the kitchen have to withstand sharp knives. This raises the fundamental question of the material: wood or plastic. The use of wood or plastic as a cutting surface is a personal preference. Both materials are suitable for cutting vegetables and meat. Wooden cutting boards are no less unsanitary than plastic boards. Cutting boards made of glass or stone are not suitable as a base because these materials can quickly make the kitchen knives dull.
Cutting board made of wood - natural look
Chopping board variants made of thermo beech, oiled beech, bamboo and Hinoki are particularly high quality. The latter is a Japanese type of cypress, the wood of which is unusually light, but nevertheless very resistant and durable.
It is not glued together, but consists of a single piece. Due to the noble appearance of the wooden boards, they are also suitable as coasters for pots or pans at the table.
Cutting board made of plastic - quick and easy cleaning. Cutting boards made of plastic can be cleaned faster than wooden boards. Plastic boards can even be cleaned in the dishwasher. They are also somewhat less sensitive to discoloration and smells.
Care and cleaning of cutting boards
As mentioned, plastic boards are much easier to clean and can be cleaned in the dishwasher. A wooden chopping board, on the other hand, requires a little more complex maintenance so that it lasts long and does not lose its natural beauty. To do this, it must be oiled from time to time. Before that, you have to wash it off as hot as possible so that the wooden pores open and then let it dry completely. Apply the maintenance oil in the direction of the fibers and remove any excess residue with kitchen paper. As soon as the care is completely drawn in, you can use the cutting bed again.
