It all began on June 13, 1731, in Solingen, Germany: A local blacksmith registered the brand name ZWILLING in the small town’s Knife Makers’ Roll. Founded under the zodiac sign Gemini, Peter Henckels named the brand after the German word for “twin”: ZWILLING. And the stars were aligned for this knife maker. Solingen, world-renowned for its blades for several centuries, is known in present-day Germany as the “City of Blades”. The region is now one of the worldwide epicenters for cutlery and steel goods. 

ZWILLING started expanding internationally in the 19th century, becoming one of the world’s largest manufacturers sold in over 100 countries. Founded almost 300 years ago, ZWILLING is one of the oldest brands in the world.

A CULINARY SUCCESS STORY.

What began with cutlery in 1731 was just the start of a success story now spanning more than 290 years. As early as the 19th century, ZWILLING opened stores in Berlin (1818), New York (1883), and other cities, including Vienna, Copenhagen, and Rotterdam. The first awards at the World Fairs in London and Paris soon followed, and the company won the only medal awarded in Chicago in 1893.

Numerous other first prizes followed at the World Fairs in St. Louis and San Francisco. ZWILLING went from being a local knife manufacturer to a respected leader in the culinary world. It is impossible to imagine a world without ZWILLING - its innovative products are now staples in millions of kitchens worldwide.
