Keeping my knives sharpI always saw this piece of equipment and never knew what it was for and once I learned more about it, I don't know what I did without it! A honing steel is meant to be used to make sure that your blade stays straight so that it stays sharper longer. I read that it is supposed to be used every time you use the knife, but I found that if I do it once a week (usually on Sunday's when I prep my meals for the week), my knives stay sharp for a very long time. I also love this particular honing steel because the handle gives me the perfect angle to hold the knife every time!

Nice steel, different then description3 stars for incorrect description.
The steel seems nice, but it is a round rod and not oval. I am not sure if the oval rod was actually going to be better. After talking with the call center customer service I am told the description is incorrect. I am going to keep it, but I don’t like it when something is different then advertised.

Simple Knife MaintenanceHoning your knife once every week or two will keep it as sharp as it was when new. This honing steel can maintain any German knife and even some of your Asian knives bacause of the hardness.
Every time you cut with your knife, you ever so slightly bend the blade. Honing simply realigns the blade making it sharp again. It is very simple but watching a quick utube video will make you an expert.

Perfect Tool for Cuttlery CareVery nice instrument for my beautiful new Zwilling Henckells knives. I'm new with this tool, followed the videos for proper use. Had always used sharpening stones before. Now I know this is necessary for keeping the blade in line, and in tune. I am enjoying using it, and my knives are in great shape. I can always trust the Zwilling name. thanks.

I'd never had any idea of how to use one of these, so I watched a video. Now I don't have a dull knife in the house, from paring knife to machete. We'd always had a Zwilling knife and steel in the house as far as I remember. Mine didn't get the tag with the twins.

It super important to use a honing steel to keep your knives performing their best in between annual sharpening. If you are uncertain how to use one you can simply watch a how to video and within minutes you'll be realigning your knives and you'll be impressed with the difference it makes. This sharpening steel has a bit of extra length at 12 inches and an oval shape as opposed to round which provides more surface area for the edge to have contact with.

This 12 inch rod, is perfect for honing and easily removes niches and scratches on the blade. The oval design, allows for greater surface area, achieving excellent results with far fewer strokes.
This is a must for anyone serious about keeping their knives sharp and ready to use. Haven't had to have my knives sharpened in almost a year, since learning how to properly use this steel. Worth the effort, and plenty of on line tutorial videos available.
is this truly oval - in the picture provided it appears to be round. please advise. thanks

5 yrs ago I purchased (2) knives at a store. They are great. They are both Cronidur 30. On the receipt the items are 33908-180 and 33908-200. Can I bring them to an authorized dealer to sharpen? What steel or stone is good for these knives?
